Goldie & Mo | Helping Male Youth Discuss Mental Health

May 19, 2021

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and in partnership with the Ad Council, The Jed Foundation (JED), and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as part of their Seize the Awkward Campaign, Goldie & Mo are back to help people have important conversations about mental health.

We launched Goldie & Mo last year on World Emoji Day, with the goal of helping people discuss mental health topics with their friends and loved ones in messaging environments. During a time when people were spending an increased amount of time apart, Goldie & Mo were there to help keep in touch, check in on each other, and send love.

About Goldie & Mo

These two have been best friends for years, sticking together through thick and thin. Like many of us, they have had some trouble starting the conversation around mental health, finding it a bit uncomfortable at first to broach the topic. But over time, through the strength of their friendship Goldie & Mo have learned to seize the awkward by finding the bravery within themselves to create an open dialogue. Now, they’re here to help others reach out to those who may be struggling.

A New Expansion Pack

Now, Goldie & Mo are back in a new sticker expansion pack, featuring 4 brand new stickers aimed to help young males talk about mental health. The stickers feature helpful phrases like “Stay Strong,” “Need a Hand?” “Take it Easy,” and “You Got This Dude.”

Ad Council data shows that 76% of young adults will turn to a peer in a time of crisis for support.

Seize the Awkward empowers young adults aged 16-24 to get involved when they suspect a friend is experiencing mental health issues or may be at risk for suicide. With 16-24 year olds in mind, we created these new stickers to help friends break the ice and show their support during difficult times.

The share rates have been very positive so far, showing that Goldie & Mo are helping facilitate important conversations about mental health. We hope Goldie & Mo will inspire more meaningful conversations for years to come!
